Deanna Paoli Gumina: An Overview of Italian Ethnicity: Its Past and Future in the Bay Area
Deanna Paoli Gumina is a graduate of the University of San Francisco, from which she also received an M.A. in American History and Ethnic Studies. She received a Ph.D. from Alliant University with a degree in clinical pyschology. She has published articles in California History, Pacific Historian, and the Journal of San Francisco History. She concentrates on the events and people who have shaped San Francisco’s history. Her book,The Italians of San Francisco, Gli Italiani di San Francisco, presented in a side by side format,was the first conprehensive study of the economic and social development of one of the largest ethnic groups to come to California. It has enjoyed three printings. Deanna has recently published A Woman of Certain Importance, a biography of Kathleen Norris.
