Bruce Lamott : Italia Mia: How the Italian Madrigal Influenced the Music of the Renaissance
Dr. Bruce Lamott is a graduate of Lewis and Clark College, and received his M.A. and Ph.D in musicology from Stanford University, researching the keyboard improvisation practices of the Baroque period. Now in his eleventh season as director of the Philharmonia Baroque Orhestra’s Philharmonia Chorale, Dr. Lamott began his PBO career as continuo harpsichordist in 1989. Formerly director of th choruses and conductor of the Mission Candlelight Concerts at the Carmel Bach Festival, his thiry-year tenure there included responsibilities as harpsichordist, lecturer, and educational director.
As a member of the misicology faculty at U.C. Davis, Dr Lamott directed the U.C. Davis Early Music Ensemble. In his early seasons as choral director and assistant conductor of the Sacramento Symphony, he conducted annual choral concerts of major works and prepared the chorus for most of the standard symphonic choral repertoire.
Dr. Lamott lives in San Francisco, where he teaches choral music and music history at San Francisco University High School, and is a part time professor of music history at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. He also teaches continuo realization in the Merola Program of the San Francisco Opera, and lectures for the San Francisco Opera Guild.
