James Keller: Guiseppe Martucci: Forgotten Master of the Golden Age of the Symphony
If you have been fortunate enough to attend the symphony on an evening when James Keller was the pre-concert lecturer, then you know that January 24th will be a very special evening.
James Keller is Program Annotator of the New York Philharmonic and our own San Francisco Symphony. From 1990 to 2000, he wrote about music and recordings on staff at The New Yorker. In 1999, he was awarded the prestigious ASCAP Deems Taylor Award for feature writing about music in Chamber Music magazine, where he serves as Contributing Editor. His criticism and feaures have appeared often in such publications as Travel and Leisure, Le Mode de la Musique, BBC Music Magazine, Opera News, Historical Performance, and the Sunday New York Times. His articles will appear in the upcoming scholarly volumes Nouveaux regards sur Vincent d’Indy (Editions Symetrie, Lyon) and Leonard Bernstein and his New York (Harper Collins).
James is looking forward to enlightening us about a forgotten Italian master, and you may be sure that not only will you gain fascinating musical knowledge, but you will be delighted as James Keller introduces you to Guseppe Martucci. Please join us for a wonderful evening!
