Gottardo Piazzoni, Avery Brundage, Gae Aulenti and the thread that ties them together: The Asian Art Museum of San Francisco.
Florence Hitchcock is a graduate of UC Berkeley. She taught in the San Francisco public schools for twenty-five years,retired twelve years ago,and began volunteering at the Asian Art Museum. She is currently a Docent, an Architectural Guide,and a Storyteller. She is also a past president of the Asian Museum’s Volunteer Advisory Board, and a member of the Docent Council.
Gottardo Piazzoni’s murals graced the old San Francisco Main Library, and now radiate their warm beauty in the new DeYoung Museum. Avery Brundage’s treasure trove of generous gifts is elegantly displayed in the Asian Art Museum,designed by Italy’s immensely talented female architect,Gae Aulenti. If you have visited the spectacular Musee D’Orsay in Paris, then you have seen another example of Aulenti’s superb work.
