Kelli Stanley
”The Magic Waters of Sulis: Curses in Roman Britain”
This presentation will include a general overview, then the specific topic of the BATH curse tablets and other finds from the Sacred Spring.
Kelli Stanley is a Classical scholar and author. A 2006 graduate of S.F. State University(B.A. , Classics, Art History (Magna Cum Laude), M.A., Classics), she has spoken on topics as wide-ranging as Wonder Woman and the Feminine Ideal, and the use of gender inversion in Sailust’s /Bellum Catilinae/. She has lectured both locally and internationally, most recently at the University of London. She has also lectured at the University of Melbourne, Australia, and at the national meeting of the American Philological Association.
She has written numerous articles which have been published in various reference sources, and the journals/Helios/and/Laetaberis/. As a student, Kelli was a two-time Trapp Fellowship Scholar and taught both Latin and Ancient Greek. She was also a two-time Ungaretti Translation Award winner, for her translations of Latin prose and poetry. She has been the recipient of numerous scholarships and awards and we are proud to present her as our March speaker.
